National Quality Award

National Quality Award (NQA)
People base their opinion of the life insurance industry on the type of service they receive, or don't receive, from their advisor. To them, the advisor is the company. It is therefore important that the agent gain the respect of the policyholder as a professional who is dedicated to serving the best interests of his or her client. The National Quality Award was created in 1944 in the U.S. - and one year later in Canada - as a way of promoting and recognizing high business quality, reflected by a high standard of persistency.

The NQA is visible evidence to the insuring public of the high ideals and the calibre of competence exhibited by both individual advisors and the entire life insurance industry. The award focuses attention on persistency, permanence, stability, and quality performance, giving tangible recognition to those who strive for excellence in the life insurance business.

NQA - 2010 Application form [PDF - 274KB] - Application forward to your head office no later than August 31, 2010. Head office forward to Advocis no later than September 30th.

The NQA 2010 Application form is available at www.advocis.ca website.

Top Issues Facing Financial Advisors

Do you want to hear about Advocis’ advocacy efforts from top to bottom?

Advocacy is one of Advocis’ raisons d’etre. Advocis members have stated consistently that they place a considerable priority on our advocacy efforts – and Advocis has responded. All told, in 2009, Advocis made 40 submissions to government bodies and regulators across Canada. Add in the number of meetings Advocis representatives have had with policymakers and it is clear how large a task it is to represent financial advisors and planners in Canada when there are 53 government bodies and regulators in total.

Advocis has captured a presentation by Peter Tzanetakis, Advocis’ VP regulatory and public affairs, to the London
chapter at the beginning of June. It’s a comprehensive look at the regulatory landscape facing Canada’s advisors and planners. (view the video here).
Please email us at regulatoryaffairs@advocis.ca with your thoughts on the regulatory issues Advocis discusses with legislators and regulators.

Retirement income adequacy: advisors need to play a significant role

As Canada's finance ministers address issues surrounding retirement income, Advocis is on the front lines of the debate. Many financial advisors and planners who play a crucial role in a consumer’s retirement planning also help employers set up pension plans or group RRSPs for their employees. The mandate of Advocis’ new Retirement Income Adequacy Committee is to promote a sound retirement income system in Canada. The Committee has made a number of recommendations including:
reducing barriers, for example, through harmonization, so that capital accumulation plans can be established [CAP plans include group RRSPs, deferred profit sharing plans, and defined contribution (DC) pension plans];
improving incentives for employers to offer CAP plans to their employees; and,
reforms to the tax system so that DC and RRSP savings are put on an equal footing with DB pension plans.
The committee has also stressed in its deliberations the role of professional financial advice in favorable financial outcomes for consumers. These outcomes include adequate retirement income savings, planning for a child’s education, and meeting long-term health care needs, among others. Public policy needs to foster an expansive role for professional financial advice so Canadians can meet all their financial goals.
